If I had to write a one-sentence review of INKnBURN’s Peacock camisole top and running skirt, it would be: “Hottest functional running gear that has ever entered my wardrobe.” And by hottest I mean coolest. You know what I mean. Here’s a quick video introduction of both pieces so you can see how they look on a mere mortal. Roll ‘em…
You can imagine the number of retakes because the dogs started barking or the chickens got too loud. Working with animals can be so trying.
Overall, INKnBURN corners the running gear market on original designs and vivid colors. Every piece is hand-printed before being sewn together in Southern California. The quality of both pieces I tested is top notch, with excellent fit and impeccable finishing work. I machine washed them in cold water and hung them to dry with no discernible fading or wear. This stuff is both beautiful and tough.

I’m always reluctant to buy strappy running tops with built-in bras. If it fits me on top, it’s way too tight around the middle. I had many doubts about liking this top when I was asked to review it. But guess what? The INKnBURN cami fits just right on top—the straps are miraculously the perfect length and stayed put and comfortable during a long trail run. Best of all, the cami drapes nicely around the waist, making it cooler on hot days and universally flattering.
I wore the cami with a sports bra, but there is a built-in shelf bra, which makes this top perfect for everyday warm-weather wear or low-impact workouts. The bra also includes a little secret pocket that’ll fit your car key and some emergency/post-run beer money.
After several sweaty miles on a hilly, rocky, rooty trail, the INKnBURN cami never got in my way, chafed, pinched, sagged, or generally bugged me at all. I stayed relatively cool despite the freaky-for-March 75-degree heat and humidity. Also? The lady park ranger gave it a double thumbs up! I wouldn’t change a thing about this top. Now I have to resist buying all of my favorite patterns.

Everyone knows my obsession with running skirts. I own at least a couple dozen. Still, only a few are a decent reflection of my personal style. This INKnBURN Peacock skirt? Love. Love. Love. Love. The colors are so rich I want to swim in them, but they’re also dark and moody enough to make a recovered goth like me feel like myself. And surprise—the shorts are in a different but complementary pattern. I love little touches like that. The stretchy skirt fabric is mercifully not shiny and is actually textured, kind of like vintage barkcloth curtains. And pockets! Two horizontal slash pockets in front fit a couple of gels or lip balm or whatnot.
Back to the trail for a long Saturday test run. It didn’t even take a mile to decide this is an awesome skirt to run in. The lower waist means no crazy riding up to my ribcage like some skirts do, and the pockets are secure despite the lack of zipper or Velcro. The skirt length felt perfect—just enough coverage without feeling dowdy.
Skirt tip: Size down for a good fit. It might feel tight at first, but you’ll be glad for a snugger fit once you start running. That goes for just about every skirt brand, by the way.
The INKnBURN skirt is darn close to my perfect running skirt. I can’t wait to see what new designs emerge from this company over the next few seasons.
